Frequently Asked Questions

Here's what we got so far. Can't find what you're looking for? Email ElingsTerrain@gmail.com.

1.

So it's a fundracer? Who benefits and how will proceeds be used?

Net proceeds will be divided equally between Elings Park, and the cross country programs of San Marcos, Santa Barbara, and Dos Pueblos high schools. Head coaches, at their discretion, can use their team's share to help pay for transportation costs, entry fees, and/or stipends for assistant coaches.

2.

So hold on here...3 rival high schools working together?

Yep. When they "toe it up" during the season they put their game faces on and battle for 3 miles. But for one day, everyone will work together to raise needed funds and celebrate the sport they enjoy.

3.

Can high school runners participate?

You betcha...it's a good thing for high school athletes to run with and interact with local runners. In addition to running, student athletes will volunteer on race day, cheer on all runner, and play music at the after party! Students will also help with event marketing and promotions.

4.

What if I'm not a runner?

Bring it on! Walk the 5K or 3K (either with or without your pooch). Runners of all abilities are encouraged to get some exercise (a good thing right before all the office holiday party calories) in support of a good cause.

5.

Let's do lunch (...the after party)

Good eats will await all runners along with beverages will await every runner. Beer garden will help adult runners with their cool down (note to self...if you look under 30, be prepared to show a valid ID).

6.

Who is organizing the Festival, and do they need help?

Organized by Paul Bradford (parent of former runners at Dos Pueblos and San Marcos), an Advisory Committee, and all three high school cross country coaches (Olivia Perdices, Lawrence Stehmeier, and Josh Christensen and Monica Kaplan), this thing is a parent driven shoestring operation. Can we use help...absolutely. Sign-up as a volunteer (no experience necessary).

7.

Will there be awards? And how 'bout a raffle.

Kids 3K finishers will receive a finishers ribbon. The first 100 registered runners get a race shirt included (sizes can't be guaranteed if ordered after November 20)! Top finishers in the 5K get to pick their choice of martinellis or a bottle of wine. Cool raffle gifts for runners shortly after lunch is served.

8.

Can I organize a team from work?

Abso-dang-lutely. We'd love for local businesses to rally by putting together an inner-office fun run team. Email elingsterrain@gmail.com to request a promo code discount for groups of 5 or more.

9.

The Elings Terrain Cup...pride is on the line.

Beyond the fund raising aspect, each high school team will compete for the "Elings Terrain Cup" by getting the most people to sign-up for the race (there is a question in the online registration that asks for which school you're affiliated with). So sign up now...school pride is on the line!

10.

How much does registration cost?

Can you put a price on good karma? Well, yes, you can. For the price of a couple of lunches (which add to your waist line), you can support local student athletes and burn calories in the process. Prices for the kids' 3K are less than adult prices, but ALL prices will rise the closer you get to race day. Because we're trying to raise as much money as possible for student athletes, the small registration fee is passed on to registrants.

Register now before prices go up.

5K: ($30 through Nov 12; $32.50 through Nov 26; $35 through Dec 1). Race day $35.

3K Kids Run: ($20 through Nov 12; $22.50 through Nov 26; $25 through Dec 1). Race day $25.

3K Dog Run: ($25 through Nov 12; $27.50 through Nov 26; $30 through Dec 1). Race day $30.

11.

About the 3K Kids race and the 3K Dog race.

Parents are welcome to sign-up and run with their child for the 3K race. The 3K dog race may be a time trial format depending on how many pooches sign up with their owners.
